I loved every word, every sentence, every paragraph and every page! It's got laughter, sadness, surprises, great fun, lots of eye openers and it always sounded honest. There's a couple of paragraphs that I actually want to have engraved and hang on my wall. I really felt like I was walking alongside Jay and sharing his experiences. Bought the Kindle version two days ago and finished it last night. It was a fascinating read and I was so disappointed when I realized I'd come to the last page. I'm ready for another go so I'm climbing aboard page one right now and signing up for a second contract. (By the way, I'm 70 years old and bought this book because I'm researching what I need to know before I go on my very first cruise.) I read this mostly because I'm interested in doing a cruise, and I enjoy "behind the scenes" books (ie. waitstaff, concierges, etc).Herring gives some good insight into what it's like to work - and more importantly, live - as part of the cruising industry staff, a world where you're "on" constantly for eight months straight. It's not surprisingly to hear that a ship full of young, attractive crew likes to drink and have sex, and Herring is funny about his own experiences - and the reality of what that kind of lifestyle can have on one's psyche.The book makes you appreciate what goes into making a cruise ship run from day to day, and the living conditions that crew are willing to accept in order to live that lifestyle, whether it's for one contract or several.
